About Chihuahua
About chihuahua is all about sharing chiahuahua knowledge. I love chihuahuas and i hope to share that love and passion for chihuahuas with you also.
The Chihuahua is considered to be the quintessential lap-dog, but these pint sized pups have a lot more to them than just being a favourite pet of Hollywood socialites like Paris Hilton. Chihuahuas are the world’s smallest dogs and amongst the oldest breeds in America. I love chihuahuas and hope to share my chihuahua knowledge. A Little background about chihuahua
This adorable and loving pet is native to the country of Mexico and has a history that dates back to the Aztec civilisation. Archaeological evidence has shown that Chihuahuas are likely decendants from the Aztecs ‘Techichi’ dog. Chihuahuas come in a wide variety of sizes, colours and coats but have various recognizable traits and if you’re deciding to get one you’ll definitely have a large selection to choose from. A trait of the breed is their large, triangular-shaped ears that sit erect on their skull. They also have curved sickle-shaped tails and round skulls. Although Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog they come in an assortment of sizes and can grow as tall as 15 inches. The average size of these dogs, however, is tiny 6-10 inches tall! Different size varieties are often referred to with names like ‘Tiny Toy’ or ‘Teacup’. When it comes to size and weight, smaller, lighter dogs are usually used for showing whilst the average to larger dogs are preferred as companions and pets. It’s very important to care for your Chihuahua and provide them with a lifestyle that is appropriate to their size.

About Chihuahua Coats
A big part of the appeal of the Chihuahua breed is their coat which can be long and wavy or short and flat, these varieties are referred to as long-coat and smooth-coats respectively. Both types require little grooming and have minimal shedding. The long-coat Chihuahua’s fur grows slowly and is soft and silky to the touch because of its’ downy undercoat. Alternatively the short-haired counterpart can vary in texture. Chihuahuas not only come in a variety of sizes and coats but also colours and patterns. From fawn to black the combinations of tone are almost endless. In addition Chihuahua coats can sport a number of different patterns and colour combinations. There is an article in the article directory here with a more thorough coverage about chihuahua coat care that can be found here.
About chihuahua temperament
When it comes to temperament Chihuahua’s are likely the most fiercely loyal dogs you can find. They have the tendency to build very strong bonds from puppies – especially with one person. For this reason keeping a Chihuahua in a large family home can sometimes be difficult – especially if the home has children. Chihuahuas must be cared for with love, patience and a stern attitude when it comes to misbehaviour. To learn more about chihuahua and children visit my article here.
The thing about chihuahua and their small size and cute appearance is, chihuahuas can sometimes be disciplined with a carefree attitude. As a result they sometimes learn bad habits and can become aggressively protective of their owner and anti-social. Overall however, these dogs are one of the most iconic breeds and can be a worthwhile companion if nurtured and loved.
I have one and I wouldn’t trade him for the world.
